Real Steel History

The real steel Steyr semi-automatic M9-A1 was the final product to launch in the company’s M series, with the sidearm unveiled in early 1999. The M9-A1 was considered a direct competitor to similar-type handguns on the market such as the Glock.

In fact, Steyr M9-A1 was the brainchild of former Glock employee, Wilhelm Bubits. As a hobby shooter and police officer, Bubits moved into gun design so he could create what he saw as the perfect pistol.

Working for Steyr in collaboration with engineer Fridrich Aigner, the Steyr semi-automatic M9-A1 pistol was born.
